I'm interested in flying from Tampa, FL to Roatan next February. Recognizing that this is a year out but round trip price now starts at $1020! I would be interested in any information from travellers who have made this, or a similar, trip. Thanks, N.C.
For that price you could fly to Buenos Aires and back. No way would I spend that kind of money to visit Roatan.
Not many responses so I'll share that we only stopped there for a day on a cruise. We walked to the small town shopping area, which was nice enough, and the people were not hostile or aggressive, as they are in many places. We visited the small animal preserve (zoo?) which was OK too. I imagine you're going for the diving. We did not see the beaches so not much information to add.
We stopped in Roatan on a cruise, so just for a day. But, we loved it for snorkeling!! I wish I remembered the name of the beach, but we took a transport van from the cruise for probably 45 min before arriving at the beach. No one there! We had security guard watch all of our things while in the water and had a private snorkel guide show us around the reef, all for free (we tipped them). We were also informed that no one would come up to us to sell us things, that we were required to go to them if we wanted to make purchases. I love that! The snorkeling was some of the best we have ever done. I think Honduras is known for higher crime, so I think that is why they gave us security. We never felt uncomfortable but having someone watch all our stuff was wonderful. I suppose it helps with tourism. I'd love to go back!

West Bay Beach I believe, not to be confused with the West End
But for that price I'd go somewhere else
Hi! Well first the price seems high to me...especially for something booked a year in advance - if I understand correctly. Anyway, Roatan is nice but I strongly advice that you go there only if super interested in lots of beach time, water sports and outdoor adventures. I drop this link here so you can see what I mean https://divezone.net/diving/bay-islands-honduras but if you decide to go there and like snorkeling, at least, or diving, at best, you'll have a blast! I can't believe it's been one year since my trip there - plus I've been on Guanaja as well! the dives were beautiful, jet ski so much fun and simply walking around the more remote areas was easy going and fun! Anyway, as I am not sure what you are interested into I will stop here, but please ask if you have specific questions!
Have fun!
