Has anyone done a river cruise to Vietnam, Cambodia and gone to Thailand. Do you need guides in Thailand?

I haven’t gone yet, but my planning for a trip to Thailand showed group tours as well as private guides are very reasonably priced there. My 15 day tour, including a single supplement charge, all optional excursions, and one intra country flight priced out at $2100. My brother and sister-in-law hired a private driver/guide for several days and felt the pricing was extremely reasonable.
If having a guide really isn’t that expensive, why not have one?

You do not need a guide or a tour in any of those countries. I've gone alone, to those and to Laos and Burma, and always had a wonderful time and always felt very safe. The key is just to do your own reading and come with a sensible plan.
Thailand is one of the easiest countries in the world to travel alone...
I did take a two-week river cruise in Burma; I have mixed thoughts about that.
