We'll be in Bucharest for a couple of days prior to our river cruise and will be staying at the InterContinental Athenee. We already have sights and tours planned, but would love a couple of restaurant recommendations. Preferably with some local specialties - low key. Our Rick Steves Central Europe guide only lists Caru' cu Bere and Hanul' lui Manuc. We also are fans of craft beers. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
We enjoyed Vatra Restaurant very much, not too far from the old town, and a large number of local specialties on the menu. We also enjoyed Hanul' lui Manuc; we frequently tell others about my wife's roasted pig tails in a garlic sauce. Caru' cu Bere was good, but more on the touristy side.
Our favorite (earlier this month) for a modern take on Romanian food was Noua BAR. Very casual outdoor patio or indoor space. Reservations advisable.
It's very close to the Romanian Peasant Museum.
I found it in this article, where you might get other ideas.
