I was wondering if anyone has experience renting a vehicle and going it on you own in Nepal? Was there any big issues to be aware of? Road conditions? Cost? Ability to navigate? Security and safety? This is my starting point for considering it. Thanks.

We had some pretty terrifying bus and taxi trips in and around Kathmandu. Worst one was sitting in an ambulance, lights and sirens (unnecessary). Numerous sections of driving on the footpath/sidewalk, sections of driving on dirt tracks and across sections of grass. Fortunately road congestion meant he could rarely hit 40 kph.
That's the kind of 'on the ground' information I find valuable. Thanks very much. Several postings have warned of driving on my own and I will take that heart. Unfortunately I'm prone to motion sickness which is a bigger problem when moving as a passenger, it doesn't affect me when I'm driving. Sounds like I need to rethink driving myself.
