We are traveling to Egypt the 4th week in October. I am looking for your recommendations for books, online articles, websites and TV or youtube shows/movies pertaining to travel in Egypt. I will appreciate any information!
Oh boy...well for starters, there are countless "On the Nile" murder mysteries. Perhaps most recently, Kenneth Branagh's take on Agatha Christie's novel, "Death on the Nile." Yes, that is a pretty impressive mustache...
The classic "Lawrence of Arabia" of course.
This could be a long thread...
For general history of Egypt from predynastic times to the nearly present, A Traveller’s History of Egypt by Harry Ades. My copy was published in 2007, so misses the Arab Spring and its aftermath.
I thoroughly enjoyed A Thousand Miles up the Nile by Amelia B Edwards one of the first female Egyptologists who sailed the Nile from Cairo to Sudan. She started life as a novelist and it is very readable with great characters who she met on her travels.
Elizabeth Peters, an Egyptologist who became a novelist, wrote a series of books starring Amelia Peabody obviously based on Amelia Edwards. She also wrote a couple of general archaeology books under her real name Barbera Mertz called Temples, Tombs and Hieroglyphs and the follow-up Red Land Black Land, good basic books about the archaeology og Egypt.
Lots of TV programs have been made about Egypt. Check, You Tube, pbs etc.
