Rabat, Marrakech and Casablanca

I am thinking about flying into Tetouan from Malaga and then immediately heading towards Chefchaouen for a day and later on to Fez. We have a flight booked to leave from Casablanca.

I want to go to Marrakech but it is over 5 hours of transportation from Fez (I looked into flying but there isn't a flight on the only day we could fly). Should I just go to Rabat instead since its much closer?

If I go to Rabat should I spend more time there or in Casablanca? I know everyone has different perspectives I just wanted to see if there was a general consensus. Thank you :)

If I travelled to Morocco and wanted to see Marrakech, I would not let a five hour train trip stop me from doing that. Morrocan trains are nice and similar to western European trains.

I'm not clear on how much time you have altogether for the Moroccan part of your trip.

Casablanca is a modern city pretty much lacking in the sort of atmosphere you're probably hoping to find in Morocco. Assuming you don't have a great deal of time, I'd spend only as much time in Casablanca as is necessary to be sure I made the outbound flight, which I'd guess means getting there the afternoon before. (I haven't been to Morocco since the 1990s and don't remember the distances involved.)

Morocco in 2020 - Casablanca wasn’t memorable. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. Enjoyed spending time in Marrakech (a highlight), Fez and Rabat.
