Question about Another AA Change

Well, I did get a second notification from American that my flight has changed.

I did not get freaked this time andI am waiting to call. Taking the deep breath first.

Once again American put me on a. flight that will not work and I am going to have to call for a rebooking but this change is much simpler than the first.

This time the change is coming home from Korea. The change is from Dallas to Austin. I was on a.flight leaving Dallas about 9 pm and now American has put me on one leaving Dallas about 5:30 pm which will not work but there are several others that will work. Dallas to Austin is very popular and I think that American has a hub in Dallas.

But my question is: There could be a. few to several other changes requiring me to call American before I even leave. I am not even flying to Tokyo until the end of September and returning home mid to third week of October.

Should I call American now about the Dallas to Austin change (after I relax of course) or should I even give it more time to see if there will be more changes?

How do you handle it when you are booked and receive major changes to your flight when you still have months before your trip?

I usually tackle this as soon as possible on the assumption plenty of other passengers will have been disrupted too, and will be seeking a similar change. I usually fly into and out of a small, regional airport, and those seats can get snapped up quickly.

I would really love it if passengers were allowed to make changes as easily as the carriers do.

We have had this happen way too many times with AA, the price, the connection times are great and then the changes start happening. I no longer book with them.

Thank you Scandifan and Margie

Margie

I do not travel a lot and i have traveled with AA many times. I have had changes before but nothing like what is happening with my trip to Japan and home from Korea.

Originally I had a very good booking but then American changed it to something that did not work and it got confusing. This is the second change that does not work and is forcing me to call.

Scandifan

I was thinking the same thing, that I better call AA asap but I have a busy day and so much to do. I feel that I might have to put it off until late this afternoon or evening or maybe tomorrow.

Good job staying calm. If AA just notified you today, I would call sooner than later, sometime in the next 24 hours.

However, before you call AA, be sure to have all your ducks in a row. Write out all airlines and flights numbers along with the arrival and departure times for each flight of the schedule you want from Korea to Austin. This way you can double check that AA is doing what you ask.

And be certain you are calling the correct AA phone number!

Good luck.

Airlines do love to make changes. Do you have to call in to fix your issue? I always try the online option first. If you access your AA booking online, then you can choose a different connecting flight for the DFW to AUS leg. It's so much easier and faster than talking on the phone.

I concur with Laurie. I always try to rebook online first and have been successful most of the time. Before calling I always research the new flight I want so I can mention that to the airline agent thereby saving us both time and usually getting my choice quickly. Good luck.

you remember what happened ..... first go round.

The confirmation number / flight number is on the notification.

The new flight that does not work long with the old one that did is also on the notification.

I have the dedicated AA phone number just for AA Advantage members written down.

And I have to call in because there is a password on my flight. I can not even look at my flight yet alone make changes without the help an AA employee.

I will do it by tomorrow.

Hello LaurieC and Simpgoff

My situation is very complicated and I will spare you the story of what happened a couple of months back when AA changed my original booking but I have a password on my flight. I can not even view it yet alone make changes to it without the help of an AA employee.

I have to call in to the dedicated phone number for Advantage Members. Then I have to give the employee my password before anything else and then we can talk.

The only portion of my flight that is now changed is the final leg from Dallas to Austin. American must have cancelled the 9 pm flight but there are others after 9 pm.

And I am planning on hanging out in the Austin airport until very early morning when I take public transportation home. I will be taking one of the first buses home leaving the airport about 6 am so I am not in any rush to get to the Austin airport the night before just as long as i get there.

Is avoiding a $30-$40 taxi fare really worth the bother of changing fights and spending overnight in the airport waiting for a 6AM bus?

Hi joe32F

Well I would call a Uber or Lyft.

It is not the money so much as the inconvenience. You can no longer get an Uber, Lyft or taxi from the airport itself. You have to go across the way towards the parking garage. . I did not even ask last year. I saw that there is a shuttle that can take you to wherever you have to go. Or maybe it is walkable.

Maybe I will look into it this time. This was new last year. I do not know when they moved ride shares to "across the way"

I called American and voice mail told me that my wait was over 90 minutes so I requested. a call back. It has been over two hours now. I called back and voice mail told me the wait was over two hours.

When I called. a couple of months back, I had almost no wait and I had to call many times.

It looks like the flight that I was on is still available. it does not look like American cancelled it. It looks like American cancelled me and put me on a flight I might not be able to make.

Maybe their A I needs repair.

Update: American called back and I got rebooked to a flight that worked better for me. My flight was cancelled. It was a 9 pm flight that was cancelled but they added a 9:15 flight so why not just put me on that one to begin with.

Oh well, it is all good. None of the drama that had happened previously.

On the Austin Airport Uber issue. The last time I went home I flew into Austin and the Uber stop was in the parking garage just across the drive from the arrivals hall. That was 3 years ago and maybe things have changed, but then it wasnt even a 5 minute walk.

Safe travels.

Glad that it did not involve any of the previous drama from a couple of months back. Even got a confirmation email.

But I am wondering about how many more changes before my trip.

Mr E

Thank you for the information.

Added: Should add that there have been a lot of changes in the last three years. Lots of construction. Places to be picked up by ride share and taxi might have moved since you were last here.

Plus your five minutes can be my twenty minutes.
