Quebec trip

The wife and I are thinking of a driving trip (from New England) to Quebec City and possibly Montreal.
We will of course be exploring other online resources, but it is always nice to get insights from this forum.
One practical question is about driving to these old cities... and parking. Is it likely that hotels will at least have some type of parking?
Also, I assume that we would be able to get around with public transportation.. just as in Europe..

Finally, I understand that there are no longer restrictions for entering Canada, especially as we are not vaccinated.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Yes, we will take passports.
We last visited there about 40 years ago after we first got married. We went the
first or second week of October, and it snowed... and was brutally cold.
This time we will aim for mid-September

We drove to Quebec ten years ago. Our hotel, which was just inside the old city, had parking but it was very expensive. We left the car at the hotel and took public transit or walked to the various sites. If I can remember the name of the hotel I will add it.

Suggest visiting Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.

Ottawa deserves one full day at least. Montreal deserves 3 full days and Quebec City 2-3 days.

Use Kayak.com and TripAdvisor.com to pick your hotel. Use map feature for location in each city.

We stayed across the river in the pretty little town of Levis and took the ferry back and forth to Quebec City. The ferry landing was right at the foot of the old town which made it very convenient, with no worries about driving, finding parking, etc.
With a car I'd suggest taking a few days to explore the very pretty Gaspe peninsula. In September it will be especially gorgeous.

We did a road trip from Ontario to Prince Edward Island with overnight stops in Montreal and Quebec city.

Montreal downtown traffic was challenging, even with GPS because of construction and road closures.
Recommend the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Botanical gardens (the Chinese gardens and the Greenhouse were beautiful when we visited).

Quebec city traffic was the same as Montreal but the Old City had almost no traffic.
We stayed we upper Old City by the promenade, the views were great .
We walked everywhere and used the elevator between the higher and lower parts of the Old City.
The lower part has cobblestone streets and an old European feel.
The best meals of our entire trip were on the restaurants on the upper Old City( except for the seafood in Prince Edward Island).

You can use the ferry from Levi to avoid the traffic in modern section of Quebec city.

There's plenty of new city outside the walls of old Quebec City that will have modern hotels and conveniences, including parking.
