Quebec /Montreal

My Friend and I will arrive September 8,23 in Quebec, the end of a cruise. That day will be my 80's Birthday so we woul like to spend a day or two in Quebec befoer we fly home to Chicago from Montreal.
I need advice on what to visit in Quebec, where to stay for a night?
We will stay 1-2 days in Montreal, what to visit and where to stay, if possible close to the Airport
I am looking forward to your advice.
Thank you

Surprised you have had no responses.
Quebec. We did a day tour from Montreal which included a city tour of Quebec. You might want to see if there is a tour based in Quebec that interests you. We enjoyed just wandering around the lower part of the city. Others did a river cruise.
In Montreal, we took a tour of the Forum where the Canadian s play...great if you are a hockey fan.

There is a historic fort there in the old town area of Quebec city that is worth a visit. We also enjoyed visiting the farmers market down in the new town area, for some locally bottled maple syrup.

I don't remember the name of the hotel in Quebec, but it was in the city, just a short walk from the famous steps leading up the steep hill. Check out TripAdvisor

Just to clarify, you are 1-2 days in Quebec City (rather than the province itself), and Montreal?
The old towns of both are interesting, but know they can be hilly and steep...Quebec City Moreno. The Chateau Frontenac would be a wonderful birthday treat. It is now a Fairmont, but was originally one of the iconic Canadian Pacific Railroad series of hotels built in early 1920s. From there. There is a boardwalk and funicular to reduce some of the climbs.
Check what is happening at the Montreal museums. I recall a weekend trip that had me seeing a Dale Chihuly glass exhibit one day, and then a night and day visit to the Botanical Gardens. It was later in Septemver, so it was the illumination of the Japanese Gardens at night, and the world display of Mosaiculture....the 3 dimensional installations made with wire frames filled with plants. Even without the special events, the gardens are lovely and also near the Biodome.
