I have a 13 hour layover in Doha with a friend next fall - we land at 6PM and take off again the next morning at 7:40. So just enough time to see a little, sleep, then get back on a plane.
Has anyone ever done one of the "transit tours" designed for quick stopovers like this?
If so, do you have a company that you recommend? Don't know if I want to just stick to the city or venture out into the desert.
If you have any experience with this, I'd love to hear about it!
My wife and I had a 10 hour layover in Doha this past October 1st and booked a "Discover Qatar" through Qatar Air. Our tour ran from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with three stops along the way. It was a nice way to break up the long layover and a great opportunity to see the city. The bus was very clean, water was provided and the guide did a wonderful job of explaining things along the way. I would very much recommend it.
We did transit through Qatar three years ago when we used Qatar Airlines to go to East Africa for a safari.
We had a layover of 8-9 hours and stayed in a nice hotel, INSIDE the airport and inside security. It wasn't expensive and nice.
We had a bit of jet lag and weren't interested in touring Qatar. I lived in Saudi Arabia for five years and we have visited Bahrain, the UAE and Oman. I didn't think visiting the city of Qatar would be worth it. Hope I didn't miss much.
