We are thinking about spending 1 week over xmas time in Puerto Rico. It's just me and my partner. We're in our 50s but active. We are interested in checking out San Juan and other urban areas but also enjoy spending some time on the beach. Having a place to swim every morning would be ideal. Is it easy to get around in a rental car? Any ideas as to where to base? Thanks for any input.
Following. We will be 58 and 54, vacation active. Staying in Condado with another couple in late September. I know OSJ very well, but, other than the popular videos, are looking for ideas for adventures (other than El Yunque)
Someone here will give you a MUCH more helpful answer, but when we went to Puerto Rico in 1995 for Christmas we stayed on the island of Vieques and loved going to the bioluminescent Mosquito Bay at night. In those days, you could be in a boat and even swim in the bay --- probably both not allowed any more and for good reasons! We did get around in a rental car, but noticed how few cars still had their side mirrors.....
Yes, it's very easy to get around with a rental car.
I had a wonderful time on a drive from San Juan to the "pork highway," the "ruta de lechon," a strip of retardants offering roast pork and side dishes....weekends are very lively with live music....a lot of fun....we hired a driver to take us from SJ, but easy to drive on your own..
