phone in morocco

We are traveling for about 2 weeks in Morocco this October and since the charges on our phone would be very expensive, we want to buy a phone there. Any tips, as to where (we fly in to Marrakesh from Seville), what kind, etc. Appreciate any tips and suggestions.

Are you saying that you already checked your carrier's international vacation plan options and Morocco was not well-priced on their options? See also http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/phones-tech/data-roaming.

If you have a GSM phone that is unlocked and will accept a new SIM chip, then you can buy just the chip in Morocco from one of the major carriers there (Meditel, Maroc Telecom, or inwi). See also http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/phones-tech/stay-connected-in-europe.

Third option is that you should easily be able to buy a basic phone in Marrakesh from a storefront associated with one of the above mobile companies, such as this Nokia 106 for about $25.

Yes our carrier charges too much and getting a sim card could pose a problem with having our phone unlocked ( a long explanation ) so we want to buy. Are there place at the airport to purchase a phone?

Looks like there is a shop called Sahatel in the public part of the Marrakesh Airport. If that doesn't turn out to be convenient or open, you'll certainly have more options in the city center.
