Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe no longer banned!

For anyone traveling to the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum, take heart as Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe are finally off the banned list! That's the first step towards memorializing them at the museum. I am so frigging excited I can't stand it. Pete Rose was my favorite Reds player in the 70's and I knew every single stat of his for years. This is a wonderful thing and I wish I was in Cincinnati right now to celebrate!

I can't share your joy Mardee. Pete Rose was a despicable human being. I'm afraid if he gets in then all of those drug cheats from the 90's will be next. What a horrible precedent.

I have to agree with others. He had a great gift and chose to tarnish the Game. He should not be celebrated.
Edit….And I don’t see how it’s related to travel, either.

If you all want to discuss travel to the Hall of Fame, please make that the subject matter of your posts. Otherwise I'll remove the thread.

I'd be down to visit July 27th when they induct Ichiro. (Go Mariners)

Regardless of the controversy it looks like a nice place to add to a possible New England, upstate New York fall trip I’ve been thinking about.

I love the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. I went there for the first time about 30 years ago when I was doing some free-lance work for Glimmerglass Opera, and had the best time visiting the exhibits. But the most special one was a ball that my dad donated. He had won it at the 1940 World Series game when the Reds won the series, and it was signed by all the players. He kept it for years, but finally donated it to the museum, which was thrilled to have it. I was the first one in my family to see it on display, and my dad died before had the chance to.

At any rate, one of these days I want to get back there, as it's in a beautiful location in New York State.

Just my opinion, but induction into any sports Hall of Fame should be based on what they did on the field, and not off of it. If that were the case, no one would be inducted? Ty Cobb? Horrible human being, but he did what he did on the field. In that sense, I welcome Pete Rose to a future nomination for the HOF. It's absolutely scandalous that the player with the most base hits of all time isn't in the Hall, regardless of what you think of his gambling or other shortcomings. None of us are perfect, and I don't understand this "purity test" that seems to have been enacted in recent years when most of the people deciding on this are just as corrupt as the players they try to smear. Just my 2 cents.

Lucky. It's on my bucket list but it's an inconvenient place to get to. One day. And there will be a Trip Report. Duke Snider and Gary Carter will be the players I want to see.

Thanks, GregW. I think most people don't understand that it's not about the person; it's about the player. I defy anyone out there to dispute that Charlie Hustle deserves to be admitted. And that is why I will be traveling to the Hall of Fame museum to visit once he is inducted.

BTW, you're definitely right about Ty Cobb! :-)

I have mixed feeling about this decision. What those men did deserved banning while they lived, but still perhaps it is wise to recognize their talent decades after their death.
