I visited Peru back in August, and even then you could feel some tension in the air. I probably wouldn't visit Peru now, between the attempted coup and now the civil unrest, it's a bit of volatile situation for the time being.

Not a place I’d travel to any time soon. While I enjoyed Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Ecuador, each is having some significant issues right now, as are other countries. For the foreseeable future South America is off the table.

We were planning Peru for 2024, I hope the unrest has subsided by then, but nothing has been booked, so we can always change our plan.

Peru has a notoriously volatile political climate, even for Latin America, these kinds of crisis seem to come in cycles for Peru every few years. Let's hope that the new President, Peru's first female one, can bring some more long-term stability.

We have been to Peru twice and it is our favorite South American country.

Until recently, Peru had a stable government since it put down the shining path Mao's guerrillas. I would expect stability once this crisis is over.

Well, I don't know your definition of a "stable government" is but in the last 3 decades I think Peru has seen 6-7 Presidents ousted from office and/or imprisoned for corruption, that doesn't sound like stability to me.

Carlos, Yes, regarding corrupt Presidents, but nothing like the current situation since the Shining Path.
