Peru 2 week itinerary - help!

Hi! Would love some input/advice around a Peru itinerary of 2 weeks. We’re for sure operating within a 2 week window, as we already have our flight to Mendoza that last day. Would love to hear from folks if we have too much or not enough time in certain spots.

Full breakdown below, but at high level

3 full days Lima

-4 days Puerto Maldonado

-3.5 day ollantaytambo

-4 days Cusco

I’m leaning towards taking out one of the days from Lima or Puerto Maldonado to put towards an extra Cusco day. We prioritize nature, unique experiences, good food.

Lima: 3 full days, leave on the 4th day.

-Staying in miraflores, barranco exploration and the must-sees in town like Museo de Convento, plaza de armas, etc.

-the main draw to Lima for me is FOOD. Food scene seems unreal. I’m hesitant to remove a day here only for that reason.

Puerto Maldonado: 3N/4D or 4N/5D

-looking at tambopata research center and its associated lodges, as well as jungle pro and chuncho lodge

-obviously drawn by the incredible wildlife and unique/immersive nature experience

-wondering if we can satisfy this requirement much just 3N/4D? Anyone who has had experience, let me know what you think! I’m just worried about the whole first day and last day being consumed by travel in and out…

Ollantaytambo: 3 nights/4ish days

-first day pretty much traveling in, afternoon explore town

-second day: check out the ruins around there, time in town, maybe the falls

-day 3: we’ll do a Chinchero-urquillos day hike, we’re skipping MP (I know, I know)

-day 4: going with a guide to check out Moray, Maras and Pisac on the way to Cusco where we’ll stay next.

Cusco: 4 nights

-explore town

  • potentially back to Pisac for Kinsa Qocha day hike
  • List item

-I would love to do Pallay Punchu…but it’s a 4-5 hour drive there, and then back. For a total 2 hour hike. ANY ADVICE?

-next day leave

Big question again for me is do I take a day from either Lima or PM to put towards Cusco? Or good as is?

Thanks so much!

Don't skip Machu Piccu. You have time for a day trip from Ollantaytambo. Or take a day from Lima to make it work. The train ride is very nice. We spent 3 nights at the Jungle Pro Lodge by Puerto Maldonado and loved it. It was exhausting----we had to be on the boat at 3:15 am to visit the clay lick and it was great! https://tambopatatravel.com/ This agency has a great website detailing Amazon options from Puerto Maldonado. Mike will respond to questions. I chose Jungle Pro because I wanted to see the macaws and giant otters.

On a scale from one to ten with ten being highest:
Machu Picchu is 10
Cusco is 7
In between is a 6 or 7.
