PEI and the The Island Walk

What can our friends north of the border tells about us about PEI's new Island Walk ? Let's say I'm a first-time visitor to PEI, have 2 weeks to devote to "the Best Of PEI" and would like to walk or bike between them. Which of the 32 segments would you recommend and why? Thanks

Well I didn't even know that existed! Looks intriguing. For those who also haven't heard here is the link I found

In terms of best of PEI, I would suggest you will want to see Charlottetown, I notice it starts and ends there. Kildare capes which are mentioned in section 10-11 are very scenic. If you are an Anne of Green Gables fan that area is closer to section 16 to 17 I think.

We just sold our house in Malpeque so we can speak a little to our experience.
PEI is beautiful even though not having lived there full time year round.
The trails can have some sections that are surrounded by trees, some parts much more like pine barrens. We prefer biking the trails due to the sparse services along the way as well as the (sometimes) isolation feeling in some spots. Is very easy to bike. Mostly flat, dirt or gravel with some parts paved.

Of course you have seen the website? https://theislandwalk.ca/ where you can download maps and read others’ experiences?

We have friends who break up their journey by camping near the trails; turning the trip into a camping bike trip.

Also recommend…PEI is a lovely, interesting 8 hour drive from Bangor Maine.

Enjoy and good luck!

I have been eyeing this walk, so paying attention. PEI is where my husband’s family is from. It is a beautiful island. I am following this post!

Thanks for this! I'm already starting to plan a road trip to PEI next summer or fall from Duluth (will probably drive the northern route through Canada), so I will bookmark this and check it out in more detail later!

Hi Bobbing,
Being from Duluth, you probably are already aware how the Fall season comes earlier further north. With that in mind, remember the maritimes region of Canada gets colder earlier, and fairly blustery by end of September. We usually closed the beach house in September. In fall, the mornings can be pretty cold there. Saying that to say this: If considering fall, do a little weather research during planning so you don’t get stuck in cold.

Have fun planning!

I live in the Maritimes and the last few years, it has been quite warm in the fall. The fall colours tend to be best mid October.
