Here's a link to an MSNBC story indicating current passport processing time. As with all news stories, a grain of salt might be in order.
The recent stories we have seen on the Forum (from Jane and someone else who commented on her thread) have been receiving them back much more quickly than that !
Routine passport applications are currently processed within 6 to 8 weeks,
I wonder if this refers to First time application vs. a renewal processing.
As Kim noted, the recent reports from forum contributor,s indicate renewals are running around 4 weeks
As I posted on one of those other threads:
I submitted my renewal just a day or so before Thanksgiving and received it 2 weeks later.
I did opt for expedited service including express mail for return.
I used Priority Mail to send it since it was a holiday weekend and either way it would arrive on the first business day.
I was extremely happy with the service which obviously has greatly improved recently.
My renewal took about three weeks. Interestingly enough, my old passport arrived in a separate envelope the same day as my new passport.
Just an update for 2024 renewals — I mailed my documents on March 27 and signed up for email updates. The State Department acknowledged receipt on April 1 and completed processing on May 1.
I received my new passport today!
