Opinion of Oceana cruise line

We have friends that have invited us to go on a 30 day cruise from Singapore to Cape Town on the Oceana Regatta.

We would love to join them, the cruise looks great and we have not been to most of the ports.
Still, the fare is very high. An inside cabin is about $9000 pp and balcony $1300 pp. The cruise is 30 day and goes to many ports.

I read some reviews on Cruise Critic and Oceana gets a 3.8 of 5 rating, not bad, but not really what you expect from a "luxury" cruise line.

Has anyone cruised on this cruise line or ship?

I found a similar cruise on Cunard for 22 days from Singapore to Cape Town, with fewer ports and 8 days shorter with an inside starting at $3,600.

We have cruised on Oceania's Regatta. It was our first long cruise, 35 days from Hong Kong to Athens. My impressions and memories, although out of date now, are all positive. For the most current and best answers to your questions, however, I suggest you go to cruisecritic.com for reviews of ships and cruise lines. You'll find everything you want to know about both Oceania and the Regatta.

We have NOT cruised Oceana, but our friends (who travel high class and luxury with Tauck) take a LONG Oceana cruise once a year. They always have positive things to say about the service, excursions, and food. We def plan to book one when we retire and can take LONG cruises.

As much as I like Cunard (and I really do), it's apples and oranges unless you are comparing Cunard's Grill Class to Oceania. And even then Oceania has inclusions that Cunard does not. As for Cruise Critic's rating system, I wouldn't give it much weight, frankly. I think of Oceania as entry level in the luxury Cruise category. Nothing wrong with that. And I think you would have to be a particular kind of cruiser to not enjoy a cruise with them. But I agree that you would benefit from spending time on the Oceania forum over at CC.
