I'm wondering if there is any information about accommodations in Old Montreal. My husband and I are looking at mid-range nice hotels in the walkable part of the old city. I know there is a port area too, which appears to be adjacent. We looked at the Hotel Gault and the Auberge du Vieux - Port as possibilities. Anyone familiar with these or recommend others for a special long weekend attending a wedding?
While it's not in Old Montreal, I'd recommend Hotel Bonaventure. It's a short walking distance to Old Montreal and just a few blocks west of Hotel Gault. Even better, it's situated right above a Metro stop (you don't have to leave the building) and only two stops from OM. Was very reasonably priced when we stayed there.
We enjoyed our stay at Le Saint-Sulpice Hotel Montreal. In the middle of everything, right by Notre Dame making it walkable to everything. Close to the metro and buses if wanting to venture out to other areas.
Nixit: fun facts.
The legendary Jimi Hendrix stayed at the Bonaventure following his '68 concert, after staff at the Queen Elizabeth refused to honour his original reservation.
Jimi's indignant local friend, Corky Laing (drummer for Mountain), cursed that QE staff then took Jimi to the Bonaventure.
As well, the Bonaventure was the place referred to by The Who in the Quadraphenia song 'Bell Boy' wherein Moon sang: 'Remeber the place where the doors we smashed?'
I am done. The end.
I’ve been very happy here. https://aubergeduvieuxport.com/ The rooms are lovely and the restaurant is excellent. They also offer valet parking which makes arrival easy.
If you look online, Road Scholar ( and other tour groups ) disclose the hotels they use. I often look at those and then check reviews on TripAdvisor and book via www.booking.com. Just my 2 cents. Road Scholar does go to Montreal. Several trips leave on several dates so multiple hotels may be used.
