OAT Travel Egypt and Jordan

Has anyone used this company before? Looking for 2026. Will make my own air reservations. Have never used them and could use some advice. This is a bucket list so want to see everything I can. Thanks

I did the OAT trip called "Egypt & the Eternal Nile by Private, Classic River-Yacht" (https://www.oattravel.com/trips/small-ship-adventures/middle-east/egypt-and-the-eternal-nile-by-private-classic-river-yacht/2021/itineraries?icid=global:adventures:top-trending:trending-adventures:ego) in October 2023. It was a wonderful experience.

The Jordan pre-trip and Alexandria post-trip were not available when I went. I ended up going to Jordan on my own.

I think it's smart to book your own airfare. It gives you more flexibility and control over your itinerary as opposed to having OAT do it for you.

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask.

I can highly recommend OAT. While I have not been on the trip that you are considering, I have completed 4 tours with them. I love the fact that they limit their group size to 16 people and, on most trips they do not charge a single supplement which is important for me as I am a single traveler. I have also traveled 4 times with Rick Steves tours and was very happy with them. Since they only do Europe groups I have branched out into the rest of the world with OAT. Their tours are very comprehensive, with an emphasis on history and culture in the area you are traveling to. The trip leaders are exceptional. I usually book my own air as I like having control over that portion of my travel. Happy traveling to you...whatever you decide.

I hear OAT is good.
Still, it is best to compare. We did Egypt three years ago with Gate 1 Travel and it was fantastic. Also, I compared with several other tour companies and Gate 1 was the lowest by far.

I think Gate 1 has a tour for Egypt and Jordan.

We have several friends that have loved travelling with OAT, including Egypt. We are true DIY travelers, but recently went to Peru with OAT. We loved the trip, but it was more rushed than I would have planned and skipped some sites I was interested in. It did cover all the sites that I "had to see." If you want to "see everything" you might have to go it alone. Or extend your trip so you have some extra days in some areas. For example, we spent 2 extra nights in Lima, an extra night in Cusco, and booked an Amazon Lodge on our own instead of adding on their offer. Our guide was great and the people we traveled with were wonderful. It was wonderful to have someone telling us about sites we visited and to handle logistical issues (that were not their fault) that arose. We were not thrilled about going to the school and dining at a home but we actually enjoyed both experiences. We especially loved the little extra stops to learn about the locals that we could never have done on our own. The OAT itinerary includes free time so you can visit other sites if you have the energy. You can also opt out of their itinerary if you prefer to do something else that day. Definitely book your own air. I was apprehensive because after we booked some of the hotels were changed (their website says this could happen), but all the hotels were fine. We will continue to travel on our own but will probably use OAT for Egypt and Morocco sometime in the future.
