We will be in Honolulu for five days in January and have been given great information for our trip on this forum, but I have another question. We were referred to the HOLO service and it sounds great for our day-to-day usage. However, taking the bus from the airport to our hotel in the Waikiki area will probably be a problem because of our luggage (a carry-on suitcase and personal item for each of us). After checking the site regarding luggage rules for the buses, I think it would behoove us to take a taxi or Lyft upon arrival. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations about these options? I have tried, unsuccessfully, online to find out what we can do, and what prices might be. Are there any fixed rates for taxis, as in Paris?

For any group of 2 or more people with luggage I think a taxi or Uber is the way to go. A quick look at the Uber website shows a one-way trip cost, from the airport to central Waikiki, to be approximately $30.
Taxi rates aren't fixed, unfortunately, but will vary according to time of day, the specific route taken, etc. Either way it's worth it (IMO) for the comfort and convenience involved.

I used the shuttle from the airport to where I stay in Waikiki. The shuttles give door to door service and can take luggage. The cost currently quoted is $30 per person round trip (ie covers trip out from airport and return to airport at end of stay). Ticket counter is hidden away at the far end of the arrivals area or you can book on line, Google Honolulu airport to Waikiki for shuttle information.

I make a reservation with Charley’s Taxi, https://charleystaxi.com/hnl_arrival/. Note that you need to use their website portal upon arrival to find your driver.

Just returned from Oahu trip. As Lesley recommended, we used GoGo Shuttle to and from the airport. It was great. Well-organized, comfortable, and the price was right, $40.00 round trip per person. This comparable to shared van prices to and from LAX here in So. California, and the vans were mush nicer. Thanks for the recommendation, Lesley!
Also, we used the holo card for many trips around town, and Lyft for others. The holo card was easy to reload online, after original purchase and one day load at an ABC store. All in all, we old folks did okay!
