Not a big deal, but I thought it was interesting. I flew out of Honolulu last Friday and they must have the new equipment installed for carry on security. Although I have TSA pre check and don’t normally have to remove anything from my carryon, I was traveling with a group, most of whom were not TSA pre check, so I went through the regular line with them. I thought it was interesting that we were all instructed to take nothing out of carryons - just pop it in the tray. No liquid bag, iPad, food, etc. We still had to remove shoes and pocket items. It was all fast and easy (but scan caught an apple and orange a young traveler had put in her backpack, not knowing the rules).
Yes, I was there a month ago and I believe they installed some new equipment and that was the procedure for us also. We took nothing out of our carryon's.
Did you have to go thru the Dept of Ag scanners outside? We did that leaving Kauai in Feb but maybe that was just for checked baggage?
And yes, funny how things fade, lol....but then the carryon had to go thru a scanner to get into the gate area?
Yes, the Ag scanners were just inside the main door and only checked luggage had to go through them.
I had read about the new scanners for not having to take stuff out of carryons but this was my first time to encounter it. Last trip through DFW a few weeks ago, friends without pre check were still having to do the whole routine. :)
Helsinki airport doesn't require anything to come out of the bags. However, it seemed every other bag was dinged for search. That takes more time than just removing a few items.
Or was it Stockholm airport? I can't keep track. I went through seven different screenings in less than a month at five different airports.
Different airport different rules. For us, it’s always a guessing game what can be left on or stay in; Belt, no belt, shoes, no shoes, tablet out, tablet in.
Lol, jaimeelsabio. A guessing game - exactly!
