Nightmare At My Airport This A. M

I have said that I go to the airport the night before I fly. Thus I sleep at the airport

And the following story is why I do this.

We had a storm early morning and there were two rollover accidents with one being a fatality. on the road to the airport.

And here is what it looked like trying to get to the airport. I just bet some to many people missed their plane.

If we need to fly out of IAD we drive down there the day before just in case something like in the article happens. The drive there under normal conditions is bad enough.

I was not affected but I always get to the Austin airport the night before I fly just in case. What I posted is an example of what can happen trying to get to the Austin airport

However I am here and it has not turned out well.

I booked through Delta but am on V A. V A does not even open their counter until about 3 p,m. I thought that I could go through security first thing but I can not. I have to wait pre security until about 3 pm.

There are very few Services’s and food pre security.

My situation has improved. I have decided not to check my bag but carry on. I was able to print out my boarding pass and will be able to go through security very early and eat post security.

Then, IF there are problems at Heathrow (still unclear on the impact of that strike) with baggage, as you are now carry on that will also assist you at that end.

So, maybe, a win win situation.

As Jane says "relax" and enjoy.

You are now on your way (almost), you have this well planned and back up plan on back up plan, so once you get to London are very well prepared

Relax knowing you have all the back up plans.

As well as the code share with Delta that flight is also an Air France and KLM code share.

I am now post security and having a coffee and danish. Next I am going to find somewhere to take a nap.

Are you actually sleeping in the airport vs. an airport hotel? If you are going to be spending all that time in the airport, consider a day pass to a lounge. More comfortable, quiet, snacks, clean bathrooms, and a little more secure for a solo traveler sleeping.

We usually fly out of Jacksonville, Florida airport. It is only 1.5 hours from our home.
Still, if we have a flight earlier than 7am, we stay at the airport hotel just outside the terminal. If we tried to catch a 630am flight we would need to be at the airport by 5am and leave our home by 3:30am. In order to leave home on time we would need to wake up about 230am. Not enough time to get a good sleep.

Hello Carol

I just woke up from a nice nap I do not believe I am able to buy a lounge pass. I guess I can ask. I booked my trip through Delta and they are putting me on V A,

The seats in the Delta waiting area are very comfortable but there is no information desk. The only time that you see a real person is when they make an appearance to begin boarding which is hectic and then the plane gets boarded and the human is gone

Thanks for the suggestion.

I know there is a Delta Lounge

Geova

Persons who live outside of Austin often begin showing up in the middle of the night to catch a plane, there are many small communities that surround Austin

I do not know what to think about all the persons who were sleeping in the airport last night

I was wondering if some were homeless

Ok Carol

I went to Sky Club and asked about buying a pass. I was told that Delta does not sell passes. You have to have a platinum Am Ex card. Mine is gold

Good suggestion however.

I brought Rick’s London with me and obviously have my iPad so it is all good but I wish they had a TV.

Glad you made your flight. I just went out on a flight. I left from Akron, Ohio took Lyft to Cleveland. I left at 11 pm Thurs night 10-5-23. I slept really well and long on Wed night so I didn't worry about it. My United flight left at 6:30 am for Houston. In the Cleveland airport, the police did do a sweep for homeless or others with weapons etc...I felt safe hanging out till the staff arrived at 4 am. Only problem was a huge line for TSA. Then a 2nd TSA opened and I jumped in that line.

bostonphil7, I am repeating a question asked above, are you sleeping in an airport hotel or inside the airport? I would never risk sleeping in an airport overnight but we often sleep at airport hotels if we have an early flight in the morning.

Yes. I have been in London since Saturday

Unusually warm weather by the way

I have always felt very safe in airports. There is pretty high security.
