Nexus fee increasing in October

The Nexus card is a great time saver for those who make land based border crossings between the US and Canada. It also comes with Global Entry and TSA precheck. Current application/renewal cost is $50. In October this will increase to $120. They point out it is the first price increase in 15 years.

If you are interested in Nexus, applying before October might be a great idea. If your Nexus is due for renewal within the next year, this also may be a great time for getting that renewal started.

This morning was a perfect example of why I love my Nexus card. I was returning from my sister's place in Point Roberts (part of US but only accessible through Canada). When I arrived at the Canada/US border there was a projected wait time of 45 minutes for regular processing and the line stretched way, way back. There was no Nexus wait at all. We drove right up to the border agent, answered a quick question and were on our way.

Thanks for this update, maybe that's why the website was so bogged down yesterday...when I was renewing for $50 ;-) I had not notification of the price increase. It will also add lag time to any renewals or applications.
FYI, the cards are valid for at least 12 months past expiry date....as long as you renewed before expiry date. You can renew 12 months prior to expiry.
