My husband and I are in the early planning phase of a NZ trip in the fall 2020 or spring 2021. We are considering doing it on our own and/or taking a tour.
Has anyone used New Zealand Trails tours? I like the sound of it and would like feedback from anyone that has used them.

We have not used this company; we toured the South Island (a hiking-focused trip) on our own. But I looked at their tours and they appear to cover the South Island very well. And are well-priced. My question would be how much time do you spend on the bus? They seem to move from place to place each day, allowing for only half-day hikes.
We have used other adventure companies for hiking trips in Patagonia, Slovenia, France, and Spain, and I will say that we enjoy the camaraderie with other guests a lot. And we hiked the Milford Track in New Zealand as a guided hike with Ultimate Hikes, and really enjoyed that. So we are comfortable doing hiking-focused tours. I just like to be careful about the balance between hiking time and bus/travel time.

I just got their brochure today and noticed that it was a lot of traveling and a different stop every night. Maybe would be better to do on our own and book individual tours of places. Thanks for responding.
