New Zealand annouces border reopening date

Just announced in NZ - we will open borders to NZ citizens/PRs from 13 Feb 22 17, Jan from Australia, , and to everyone (except for a few red zone countries) from 30 April.

No more compulsory 14 day hotel stay - but at the moment still a 7 day home isolation (doubt that will last long). You will need to be fully vaccinated (any vaccine on the WHO list) and pre-departure teste.

Currently they are saying that you will need to home isolate for 7 days and have another test at the end of that time period - I doubt that will survive until the general opening date in April

Hi Lissie,
Yes, that is indeed what the NZ government is saying at the moment. However, as we've seen over the last 2 years, these things can change quite quickly. The Trans-Tasman travel bubble that was established between NS and Australia has been open and closed several times now. I gueess the main thing to consider during the pandemic if you are travelling, is to try and make sure that your travel itinerary is flexible and is refundable in case of changes to border openings/closings.

Yes basically the bubble is well popped because Au and NZ went with very different opening strategies.

I'm quiet optimistic at the moment - expecting to be making some flight bookings out of the country early in the new year. I suspect unless Omicron turns out to be very, very bad (ie vaccine resistant ) that our general opening of borders for end of April to happen.
