Need India advice please!

We had to cancel an 8 day golden triangle tour because we didn’t realize we needed visas until the last minute (I know - bad planning on our part!) We are traveling most of this year and despite my color coded spreadsheet - this slipped by. Anyway, we stayed a few extra days in Sri Lanka and now have our visas. We’ll be in Delhi for 8 days starting this week! What should we do? I’m seeing lots of 1-2 day tours online. I’d love to know what others have done. Of course we’ll get to the Taj Mahal! What else? Thanks much!!

There are a number of multi-day tour providers based in Delhi that offer tours of the Golden Triangle. Can choose from 3,4 or 7 nights.
Suggest looking at the "things to do" pulldown menu on TripAdvisor for sample itineraries, user ratings, and costs.

We visited four Indian ports in SW India a few years ago and had an Indian visa. I must say that it was a royal pain in the rear. I had to pay a visa acquisition company to do it for us. It was worse than the visa process for Russia and China.

I thought that since we visited India in 2015 that India had initiated a visa for those flying into the country that could be acquired on the internet. Not sure, check it out.

Yes - it’s true. You can get an eVisa. We have them in hand now so will travel to India tomorrow. Whew. And expensive mistake! Hoping our travel insurance will reimburse - unsure! Thanks for your suggestions! We’re going to enjoy India no matter what!

Delhi has a lot of places but I would have suggested you to also spare some time out for my favourite place, Goa. The place is just magical and it is the most lively place I have been to. I mean, in India you will find places with historic significance and lot of ancient structures created by the Indian themselves and by the people that ruled there. To explore all of this, it would take you a lifetime, hence, I suggested Goa because you will find those ancient structures as well as the beautiful beaches. So for next time, you can save up some time for the best beaches in south goa and I promise that you will have an amazing time here.

You do not want to visit Goa now - it’s monsoon season and therefore very, very wet.

I am looking into this area for a 3-4 week trip next February and have done tons of research. Travel there takes time and some of the trains need booking in advance. We didn’t like any of the tours as they weren’t long enough and were too rushed, as I don’t like travelling on every day, as you miss so much.

All tours seem to arrive in Delhi, where people have a day and a half before heading out (2 nights). Presumably the Taj Mahal is a must? By all accounts, Agra isn’t the best place, but you will need one night there so you can see the TM in the evening and again in the early morning. You could also see the Red Fort here. That leaves you 4 nights, presumably?

I hear that you can pick up plenty of tours in Delhi, but be cautious about which hotels the cheaper companies use. I have been looking at namasteindiatours.com who have good recommendations and are Delhi based.

The OP left Sri Lanka for Delhi on March 4, according to her post above.
