We are spending Sunday night in Dargaville and want to get to Auckland airport mid-afternoon Tuesday to avoid traffic. We plan to visit the Kauri museum in Matakohe Monday morning and need suggestions on where to spend Monday night. Down SH 16 to Parakai or over to SH1 and Whangaparaoa? Don’t need a fancy place - clean and neat with nice-ish restaurant w/in 2km or so.

Have you looked at staying at a B and B in Warkworth and then heading to Auckland after the morning traffic rush?
