Myrtle Beach

We are going to be in Myrtle Beach, SC visiting relatives (actually their time share) last week of September. First time there. As far as nearby activities, we were looking at Huntington Beach State Park, Waccamaw Wildlife Refuge, and possibly Brookgreen Gardens. Any advice or other recommendations?

Murrels Inlet has a bunch of fun and nice restaurants/bars along its Marshwalk. It's a really fun place to hang out. It's good for lunch and dinner. The Marshwalk is actually a boardwalk and a pier that extends out into the wetlands for great viewing of birds and water creatures.

Skip the All-You-Can-Eat Seafood buffets in the MB area.

Drive down to Georgetown and go to Front Street for really good, fresh, local seafood, like the River Room.

Or drive a little further south on Hwy 17 to the village of McClellanville and go to T.W. Graham's. Then take a walk around the village, see the Village Museum and sit on the dock for awhile.

Hampton Plantation State Park is worth a stop if you are interested in history. It is just south of the Santee River on Hwy 17. This would be just north of McClellanville.

Hopseewee Plantation is just north of the Santee River on Hwy 17, but I haven't been inside since it is no longer a private home.
But I have had lunch in their Tea Room. It was good.

There is also a Shell Ring south of McClellanville, Look on Google Maps. I haven't been there.

A company called Coastal Expeditions out of Awendaw does boat and kayak tours. I have done private boat trips with them that were fantastic!

If you are looking for a nice place to simply take a stroll and relax in the evenings, you can’t go wrong with Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing. Both have lots of interesting little shops and some nice places to eat. It’s a great place to just enjoy the evening, people watch, and the sunsets.

The sky wheel is a nice experience for a lovely view.

The oceanfront board wall is a nice area, too. A top top is the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove, which is essentially an old gift shop that is quite well know. It is just down from the sky wheel.

River City cafe is the best restaurant around, in my opinion. They have great burgers and it’s a fun atmosphere. Get there early because it’s a popular spot. I prefer the one on 73rd Ave.

Margaritaville is novel if you like Jimmy Buffet. It’s a fun place to go to say you’ve been.

Thanks all! We leave this next weekend. One night in Charleston (we have spent a few days there previously and really enjoyed it), then the rest of week in Myrtle Beach area.
