museum suggestions in Buenos Aires

I will have one afternoon and one morning free in Buenos Aires in January 2027 before heading out on a cruise to Antarctica. I already have a city tour, a tango lesson, and a tango dinner show booked.

I'm looking for museum suggestions. Art, history, natural history, are all good.

Thank you in advance for suggestions.

I thought Buenos Aires was stunning and was also there in January. (My visit was post-Patagonia.) The guided tour was specific to architecture and history and included the Recoleta Cemetery where you can visit Evita's tomb as well as other important historical figures. La Boca was a taste of football passion and so colorful, although very crowded with tour ship visitors.
We didn't visit museums, apologies.

We visited the Casa Rosada.

For historic locations, Castelar Hotel, 1929. Frequented by poet Federico Garcia Lorca and writer Jorge Luis Borges
Café Tortoni, 1858, oldest cafe in the city.
Crypt of San Martín, liberator of Argentina and other countries in the Metropolitan Cathedral
San Ignacio de Loyola, oldest church in Buenos Aires, 1830

Feria San Telmo and Pasaje de la Defensa were nice to walk around
El Gran Ateneo book store
Cartoon character statues along Calle Defensa between Calle Chile and Plaza de Mayo.

A couple old bars/restaurants we enjoyed, Plaza Dorrego Bar, 1880, and Bar Federal.

Recoleta cemetery was interesting and has additional prominent graves other than Eva Perón. We thoroughly enjoyed La Boca area, but visited it during daylight hours. We stayed in the San Telmo area and ate at restaurants in that area.

Buenos Aires doesn’t have much in the way of museums. I was there some years ago and visited the fine arts museum (Bellas Artes). Not terrible, but nothing special. Some third rate works by well known European artists, and Argentine works which are derivative of European schools. For something quite different I would suggest the Argentine Naval Museum. Some interesting stuff about the wars they fought with Chile and Peru in the 19th century that few people outside South America have ever heard of, plus the Falklands war. However, this one isn’t in Buenos Aires itself but in the town of Tigre, about an hour away, which is a good day trip destination but sounds like you may not have time for that.
