Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda?

We are interested in hiking to see the mountain gorillas in Rwanda and also possibly adding on a more traditional safari. Is this possible and does anyone have recommendations? Also, we are hoping to travel in April and wonder if this is a good time to go.

Definitely go! Trekking with the gorillas is a once in a lifetime experience.
We did two days of trekking. Everyone meets at the base of the mountains early in the morning and are assigned into a group. From there you hike to where the gorillas are. Ensure you hire a local porter as it is inexpensive and provides employment for the locals.
Our first hike took over two hours of trekking up muddy, jungle dense terrain. Once you get to the gorillas you have 60 minutes.
Our second day of hiking was easier as this group of gorillas was closer to the mountain base.
We stayed at the Jack Hanna house.
After our visit to Rwanda we flew to Arusha Tanzania to start our safari.
We went in August because we wanted to ensure that we would experience migration in Tanzania and Kenya.
A trip of a lifetime!
