Moscow layover

I have a chance to layover in Moscow, Russia. I have started reading the visa process. Has anyone done this? Is it worth the effort? I will only be there for 1 night. Would really love to go into the city and see the highlights!
Thanks! Milo.

The price and effort to get visa is not worth it for 1 night.

That is for sure - the price is very high (hundreds of dollars) and the effort is gargantuan (whatever Russians have to do to get a US visa, they reciprocate, so there's lots of hoops to jump through).

A friend of mine is planning to visit Moscow on the way here from the U.S. I reminded him that he also has an Israeli passport (free visa on arrival in Russia). He said I saved him at least $250 on the visa. I'm looking forward to a really fine dinner when he gets here :-)
