Morocco - Meknes/Volubilis day trip from Fes

We will be in Fes, Morocco in about a month and I was wondering if it is better to join a day trip to visit Meknes and Volubilis or maybe rent a car for the day? Any recommendations of car rental companies in Fes or day tour operators from Fes?

Thanks!

We had a private tour with Desert Majesty (https://www.desertmajesty.com/tour-categories/day-trips/fes-day-trips/), a multi-day tour that started in Marrakech, but they can also arrange a custom guided daytrip from Fes. We’ve rented cars in a number of countries and done things on our own, but to get the most of our time in Morocco, I’m glad we used them. Send them an e-mail, and see what they could arrange, at what price.

While in Morocco, we encountered others who had a different tour company, and they reported that they were basically taken from one place after another that sold souvenirs, but Desert Majesty was not about taking us places for us to spend money. They are reputable and were well worth the cost of their tour.

One additional thought - are you staying at a riad
in Fes, and do they arrange for a daytrip tour? Do they suggest that a rental car is a worthwhile option?

Cyn,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, we will be in a Riad in Fes, but I have not contacted them in advance about daytrips. We are concerned about the tours that are more 'shopping' than touring so we will definitely look at Desert Majesty. Thanks again!

We were in Morocco in 2018. We stayed in both Meknes and Fes. Our Meknes riad owner suggested a taxi driver who took us to Volubilis and back. It's possible that your riad owner can suggest someone to take you to both Meknes and Volubilis. That way you can spend the amount of time you want at each location.
