Along with another couple we’re planning a trip to Morocco in the Fall of 2025. My husband and I have previously spent a week in Marrakech, primarily in the Old Town, and a day trip to the Atlas Mountains. We’d like to have a more comprehensive tour of Morocco, and welcome comments and recommendations for a trip from 10-14 days, including itinerary, experiences and accommodations..
Check out Friendly Travel.com; we used them for a terrific tour pre-covid.
Luv2Go, Put Morocco in the search box above, then enter for travel forum and for one year or less. There are some recs mentioned in some of the entries. Good luck!
My husband and I traveled with Overseas Adventure Travel to Morocco for nearly three weeks in February. We had a wonderful experience and it was our first trip with OAT. There were 15 people in our group with a guide and a driver. We traveled all around Morocco in a comfortable bus and had excellent local guides in most stops. We spent two nights in the Sahara Desert. The hotels were very nice and the restaurants were very good. I highly recommend OAT and the trip to Morocco. We added the post trip extension to the coastal towns. We arrived a day early and our guide set up a day trip to Tangier along with two other travelers who arrived early. We have only rave reviews of our trip with OAT.
I leave on November 25 for a 16 day trip to Morocco. Booked with OAT (Gate 1 Travel) as a solo traveler. This will be my first trip with them OAT, but have always heard good things about them. . Will arrive in Rabat, then on to Fez, Erfoud, Sahara (tented camp), Ourzazade, Marrakech, and then end in Casablanca.
Obviously a very different trip than Europe, and I'm sort of struggling a bit with what to pack. I want to be respectful to their culture, but usually do not take dresses or even a skirt on vacation. I welcome suggestions. I WILL NOT check a bag.
We had a 15 day tour with Flawless Travel. We set the itinerary . . after doing quite a bit of our own research. For example, we decided after doing some reading about the time to get to the dunes/desert area near Erg Chebbi, that one night of "glamping" was not enough. That was correct, but wished we had booked some additional activities on our full day out there. The riads that they booked were all spectacular (particularly Riad Melhoun and Palais Khum in Marrakech, Riad Rihanna in Dades, and Ryad Mabrouk in Fes). We bargained for rugs near Tazenaht (shipped to our home in Portugal without a problem and at a declared value that saved us a bit on customs duties). Our driver, Simo, spoke decent English, was kind and helpful. In Chefchouan, Erg Chubby, Fes and Marrakech we also had local guides (at a few other stops as well). He drove us around in a Mercedes Vito van and I expect having four people on a tour would be less expensive, per person, than our two. We plan a return to Morocco!
Thank you all for the comments. In addition to the above we are also checking out Exodus Travel and Odyssey. Still in the exploration stage!
We just came back from two weeks in Morocco in September. Our itinerary was Gibraltar - Tangier Med ferry - Chefchaouen - Fes - 3 day desert tour - Marrakech.
Our tour company was Morocco Fabulous Travel, and they were fantastic (https://moroccofabuloustravel.com/). The three day tour picked us up at our riad in Fes:
- Day one went through the Middle Atlas, Ifrane (the Switzerland of Morocco), barbary apes, miles and miles of desert, and ended at Merzouga, where we got onto camels and rode out to our tent in the dunes of the Erg Chebbi (Sahara). Berber meal and music around the campfire;
- Day two went to a few Berber villages and markets, and ended in the beautiful Dadès Gorge (like a small Grand Canyon);
- Day three went to Ourzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, through the High Atlas, stopping at some more Berber markets (argan oil, rose oil) and dropped us of near our riad in Marrakech.
What we would like to have done, but didn't: Casablanca and the coastal towns of Essaouira and Agadir.
What we did and wished we hadn't: the Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate were an absolute ripoff and waste of time. Don't bother with that.
Advice: definitely stay in the medinas (old towns). But don't be afraid to venture into the Nouvelle Ville of Marrakech. Its a really nice city. Treat yourself to coffee at the Royal Mansour Hotel. The rooms may be $3000 a night, but they treated us like movie stars just for our $30 coffee and snack.
