Hello, we are going to Montréal and Quebec this summer. Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? We like centrally located, clean, quiet hotels. We prefer economical over fancy. While we often stay in Marriotts while traveling in the U.S. they don’t have such good reviews in these two cities. Thank you!
I haven’t yet stayed with this hotel group but plan to my next trip to Quebec. They are highly recommended by a Montreal local with extensive experience in the food and travel industries. Locations in both cities.

Hello, Claire, please do post again when you have stayed with this hotel. While I generally trust and use RS guidebook hotel recommendations, I know kickbacks abound with many guides and guidebooks.. I am actually hoping for a recommendation from someone who has recently stayed in hotels in Montréal and Quebec. One of the things I just love about this forum is that most of the posts reflect personal travel experiences.
Novatel in Montreal is reasonable, in a decent location and close to transportation options. Not far from McGill and great restaurants nearby.
Where else in Quebec are are going?
Bob, we are just going to Montréal and Quebec City. Thank you.
If you take a look at Road Scholar, you can see what hotels they use for both cities. Always well-located,
Thank you. We have travelled with RS and their hotels are really well-located!
I'm going next month and have bookmarked this...but feel free to bump it up and remind me to report back on the hotel in about a month👍
Ahhh, Quebec City. We stayed at the Clarendon Hotel in the old Quebec which is centrally located and easy to walk to most sites. Rooms on the smaller side but clean and comfortable. We were out exploring so this didn't matter much.
I stayed at the Fairfield Inn near the University of Quebec-Montreal, which I was happy with. Nothing fancy, but good location near the Berri-University metro stop, and the airport bus stop is on the same street. I found this convenient location to access Mt Royale/McGill University area, Old Montreal, and Space for Life/Olympic Park by metro. Seemed walkable to Old Montreal, but I had weekly metro pass so I saved steps. I noticed a Hyatt Place(?) around the corner in the same area.
Thank you, everyone, for your posts. We have chosen Hôtel Manoir l’Esplanade for our Quebec stay. We decided on Fairfield Inn for Montréal. Thank you for your Fairfield Inn recommendation, SQ! I will post an update upon our return. We don’t usually spend a lot of time in the hotel, and would rather spend our money on sightseeing, but do want a clean, quiet, centrally located place. We also like to have a nice breakfast before heading out for the day. I have celiac disease so we were happy to find places that offer more than just croissants for breakfast- eggs, fruit, etc. are always appreciated. Happy travels all!
For the benefit of others who may come upon this thread while researching hotels for Montreal and Quebec City….just a bit of clarification for my suggestion above. My source is not a guide who receives kickbacks. She is actually the ‘David Lebovitz’ of Montreal with a similar professional background and expertise. I know he is well regarded on this forum for ideas for Paris where he has lived for 20+ years; my source has lived in Montreal most of her life except for periods of time living in France. They are actually friends with each other and have utilized recommendations from each other for both cities.
The hotel group is also highly rated on Booking.com, another trusted resource popular on this travel forum.
