We'll be in Mexico City around day of the dead celebrations before moving on to Xalapa for 9 days.
We're interested in attending a wrestling match one night and also taking in the canals in Xochicalco.
Any recommendations related to day of the dead celebrations or tours to take in the wrestling and the canals would be much appreciated.
Wrestling is very expensive if you do it with a tour. You can buy tickets on Ticketmaster and get an Uber to take you to the arena.
Technically, Día de Muertos is November 2. November 1 is Día de los Inocentes. But you'll find the city in the midst of celebration the entire time you're there, and pretty much you will find every neighborhood in CDMX transformed with ofrendas (altars) and cempasuchiles (marigolds).
The date of the big parade hasn't been announced yet, but it's often on the last Saturday in October, so that will work for you. The parade route starts at Chapultepec Park and follows Paseo de la Reforma to the Zócalo. Crowds at street level will be crazy; if you want a great view of the parade, splurge on a balcony ticket along the parade route, or book a hotel room overlooking the Zócalo. Of course, there's a certain thrill to being in the crowd. I haven't done it in Mexico City, but I've enjoyed the parade in Mérida and in Guadalajara, and I'm pretty sure it'll be similar but much much bigger in CDMX.
Sorry I can't help you with regard to the canals or lucha libre.
Many thanks for the information about the parade. We're staying in Condessa but it sounds like a balcony would be great for viewing. Any idea where we can get balcony tickets?
