Hi there my everyone. My wife and I are wanting to do a tour from Melbourne down the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide over 3 days so we can take in the sites. We have been looking for tours that offer it, but no luck. They are either seven days or the shorter one I found stays in hostels. Does anyone happen to know of anything that might work? Thanks so much in advance!
When are you going? We rented a car and did the Great Ocean Road to Port Fairy. We drove it ourselves over three days. It's lovely. I'm happy to share my itinerary, but I don't know of any tours. I did get great help on the forum planning my trip.
Thank you! Would love to see your itinerary. I'm nervous to drive on the other side of the road but might consider it. Thanks so much.
We drove along the Great Ocean Drive, too. Made it all the way to Port Fairy. We stayed in two different places: one night in Anglesea and two nights in Port Campbell. My husband did all the driving. He had previously driven in Scotland, and he adapted quite easily to driving on the left.
Hi Brent, you could drive from Melbourne to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road in 3 days but I don’t think that it would be very enjoyable. You are looking at about 1,000 km so about 620 miles, not much time to check out the sites. We love this trip and although we have done it a few tines before we still like to spend time in the various small towns along the way and checking out the scenery and wildlife along the way. The Great Ocean Road is only half of the trip but there is still a lot to see once you leave Port Fairy and head over the border into South Australia. I would look at spending best part of a week to get to see our great southern land and to take the opportunity to enjoy Australian culture. Some other things to consider and will influence the advice that can be provided, what time of the year do you plan to travel? Where will you be going to or coming from before Melbourne and where will you be headed to after Adelaide? How long are you planning to spend in Melbourne and Adelaide?
Hi Brent, just noticed your response to Jules, if you are nervous about driving on the left, your trip idea might be much more stressful than enjoyable. Maybe depending on your other travel plans day trip bus tours might be a better option. Helen
Great Ocean Road and Beyond.
Wildlife Tours Australia.
Real Aussie Adventures.
Autopia Tours.
Australian Natural Treasures.
I have zero knowledge of any of those companies but they all offered 3 to 4 day tours. Check them out in case they offer what you are looking for. Be careful though as I have not heard of any of them.
Your wariness of driving on the left is warranted particularly re the GOR. It is a challenging road in places.
3 days is pretty tight for such a long journey with so many great things to see and do. For a first time visitor I would usually suggest taking 3 days for the GOR as far as Port Fairy. It's a long way from there to Adelaide.
