This is my 3rd time in Maui
So we've done all the tourist things. Any suggestions on hidden places (things to do, see, eat) can try? We will have a car.
sara, I've only been there twice, but we really like the Hawaii Revealed guidebook series (one for each island). Google it up and you'll see. They have lots of directions to off-the-beaten-path things.
You've probably already been to the winery, and the cowboy towns. We really enjoyed the local farmers market in Kihei.
While it's not exactly "hidden", Hana (and the road to it) would be a top choice if you haven't already done it. Plan to spend a few days - you'll never want to leave.
If you've never done it, drive around the west side of the island.
Grab some banana bread at this little green hut/stand while you're out there. You'll see it, it's at the side of the road, it's bright green, you can't miss it.
In Wailuku, hit up the four sisters bakery, and try some butter rolls.
Well, these aren't hidden, but might be new ideas.
Kayak out to Molokini rather than take one of the big boats. You leave very, very early and get there before the crowds. We did it with a guide as I was not comfortable doing open water kayaking in an unfamiliar piece of ocean. The guide held our kayak while we snorkeled. You need to be fit, and it would be best to have some kayaking experience.
Attend a worship service on Sunday - we are Lutheran and very much enjoyed Kihei Lutheran Church at 9am Sunday, and I am sure every other denomination is well represented. You will get to meet friendly local residents and enjoy island casual worship.
Tank you for all of your replies. I have been to Hana twice. Definitely will look into those guide books and bakeries. Love to kayak, not to swift on the early part.
Swim with the turtles?
Stargazing from the top of Haleakala is always fun.
