Should I hire a guide in Marrakech to take us to Atlas Mountain? How much do they cost? When should I book? Any recommendations?

I rented a car in Marrakech and drove myself. I did not feel any need for a guide.
(I am a male, however, and fairly adventurous...). Still, it seemed perfectly safe and easy to me (after the first 5 minutes of driving in Marrakech itself...but that was no more difficult or stressful than driving in Paris).

How long was the drive and would you say it was easier to navigate? We would like to head up the mountains to the falls but want more independence than a tour group.
