Hi all,
I can't seem to find any info online about a ferry running between St. John's Newfoundland and Halifax Nova Scotia. It appears all I can find is some info from other starting points to Halifax and back again, but no ferries to St. John's. Can anyone assist?
Thank you!
Katherine
You can't find info on ferries between Halifax and Newfoundland because they don't exist. Ferries to Newfoundland sail out of North Sydney. Check the Marine Atlantic website for sailing info.
There are two passenger ferry routes from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Newfoundland:
- Argentia is a 16.5-hour ferry ride and then a 1.5-hour drive to St. John’s.
- Port aux Basques is a 7-hour ferry ride and then a 9-hour drive to St. John’s.
It is possible to arrive in one port and leave via the other if you have the time.
More information can be reviewed at https://www.marineatlantic.ca/sailing-information/sailing-routes.
Thank you… I should have clarified that I had already found that information about the ferries going elsewhere besides St. John’s and Halifax. I was hoping I had missed something in my research and someone else would know a ferry that goes between those two major cities. Kind of surprising that the two main cities which are on the ocean, are not ferry ports. Anyway, thank you very much for responding. I appreciate your time.
Adding a route between Halifax and St John's would require a sailing lasting many more hours. It would be almost twice as long as the Argentia/N Sydney route, which takes 16+ hours in good weather.
ETA: todays sailing on the Argentia route was cancelled due to weather.
