In August 2025, my wife and I are going to Vancouver, B.C. and we are looking for hotel recommendations in west central Vancouver. We’ve stayed at the Sylvia hotel and it’s great except not in summer nowadays. It still has no AC, and in 2017 we broiled in the heat of our room. We’d like to stay at a hotel close to the Sylvia Hotel because of Stanley Park and the choice of restaurants on Davie & Robson streets. Thus the south West End would be perfect and so also would the Coal Harbour area. Our budget is a maximum of $250 (US dollars). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
The Westin Bayshore is probably the next closest option of a hotel in that area; it is in Coal Harbour. August is prime cruise ship season so hotels are busy and more expensive. Google maps shows some other options in the area but they may be small establishments or apartment/hotels and I haven’t heard of them.
We've been considering the hotel on Granville Island for our next stay. We usually stay at the Sylvia, but we thought might be different. Friends stayed there and liked. It looks a bit over your budget ( 449 CDN is the cheapest i see in July).
I was going to suggest the Granville Island hotel (but wasn’t sure it would fit your listed requirements) as one can take the little ferry across to several downtown locations including close to Sunset Beach/English Bay (False Creek Ferries and Aquabus).

Thanks so much for all the suggestions and I welcome more! I am astounded at the price of hotels in Vancouver's West End--at least the ones I have looked at so far. And I have stayed recently at goodish hotels in Switzerland and Norway as well as SF. Prices at hotels I have looked at thus far are $350+. That's like NYC!
It may be the most expensive month of the year I am afraid, mostly because of the cruise ship schedule here and it being school holidays.
Times Square Suites Hotel near Robson and Davie is excellent. Prices are above your range this far out, but if you can find a deal, grab it. There are a couple of other affordable places further up Robson towards downtown that are perfectly fine, but not quite as nice.
I live here too and have just had a look.
Prices are between $300-800 CAN per night at the height of summer…plus tax!
Thousands of cruise ship passengers are coming and going from April to October and they all want to stay near the cruise terminal.
Have you been to Vancouver Island and Victoria…..it might be cheaper and just as interesting as Vancouver.
Just an idea!
The last couple times I was in Vancouver I used the Delta, and really liked it. The parking was a bit strange, but the rooms were great, the location perfect, and the bar very good.

There is a Best Western about a block from the Sylvia.
Again, thank you all for the recommendations some of which I have had time to check out and some that I am about to. I checked out the reviews of the Best Western on TA and quite a few reviews complain about noisy old AC that was so noisy they had to turn it off at night though evidently the AC has been updated in some rooms. I will check with them. I note that all of you responders have posted many times on RS Forums. Congratulations and thanks again for performing a very unselfish and incredibly useful public service!
