We're traveling to New Zealand in March. We are planning to join a small group tour, something we've never done before, for part of the trip on the South Island.
Does anyone have any experience with MoaTrek or G Adventure, which seem to be the most popular small tour providers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Both operators are well experienced and seem to be highly regarded. MoaTrek may be more suited for over 40s, and GAdventures for those under 40.
I do like this very active itinerary offered by GAdventures...

I have done a number of tours with G adventure including Iceland, Jordan, Cambodia and Eastern Europe. They have been my go to company for places I would like a tour. I did New Zealand years (20 or so ) ago with Magic bus not sure it even in still in business.
Most of my groups with G have at a wide age range. I am 44 and have always had people older and younger than me
In Iceland our youngest was 14 and the oldest around 67. Most people are well travelled in Jordan I was at 20 countries or so and was one of the least traveled people. I also found as a solo traveller they have many people who are on their own as well. I have made friends I visited in their home countries.
You do carry your bag from the bus to your room. Simple clean and central hotels
It's a good mix of guided activities and free time. Most night dinner is not included but your guide will arrange a time if people want to meet.
I will use them again in the future
