Here's a question for my American friends who may not think this is as strange as I do. I'm looking for an AirBnB in Dunedin, Florida for next March for Spring Training. I've discovered that you need to book a year in advance or you get slim pickings for anything that's not horribly high-priced and so I'm at the slim-pickings stage. I found a house in Clearwater that meets my criteria of price, cleanliness amenities, etc. and it's a 20 minute walk or 3 minute drive to the Blue Jays ball park. My uncomfortableness with it is that there is a gun store next door. As a Canadian in a country with very restrictive gun laws, and a love for American Cop shows where every criminal element known to man walks into a gun store and out with an arsenal, this has warning bells ringing in my ears. But as Americans with different attitudes toward this type of thing, do you think I'm being silly?
Personally, I would not be very concerning about living next door to a gun shop. They don't walk out the door and start shooting. I question I would raise is --- what is the rest of the neighborhood like?? It would not be deal breaker for me.
My community was slightly perturbed when a gun shop opened in the area.
It was fine until the shop was broken into and robbed and armed thieves scattered.
I wouldn't want to be next door.
How's the rest of the neighborhood?
As an individual who had a 30 year career in film and TV will remind you that NYPD Blue, Blue Bloods, The Wire, Dragnet, et al were/are works of fiction.
Yes, it’s VERY sad commentary on the ease of obtaining guns here but, in all honesty, I think you’d be safer there than anywhere.
EDIT: as others have pointed out how is the rest of the neighborhood? Can you use the birds eye view on Google Maps to peruse whats around the house?
https://colesgunshop.com/ I looked at their website and I think the gun shop moved in the past year. The picture you posted is their old address complete with dumpster and mattress 😬
Never been there, but I wonder what hours the mini-mart across the street is open.
And what, if anything, is in the former gun shop location.
You are being silly
How's the rest of the neighborhood?
Is at the intersection of two busy streets and so the homes around look a bit worn. I tend to look at the vehicles parked and all seem to be perfectly middle class and as you had north up Douglas Ave. toward TD Field it gets cleaner and a nicer version of middle class.
I did notice that the gunshop moved but it appears from other Google searches that a new gunsmith business may have moved in.
I would be more concerned with the Greek Orthodox Traditionalist Church across the street on Douglas. You never can tell about those Greek Orthodox Traditionalists.
Actually, I own a place about 3 miles away off Sunset Point Rd. I've been down that way and would see nothing to be too overly concerned about. If you bring a bike, you can ride your bike to the Blue Jays games, as the Fred Marquis Pinellas Bike Trail is 3 blocks away. The trail, on a repurposed railroad bed, will take you to TD Park.
We took our dog to the vet at All Pet Care 1/2 mile away on Sunset Point Rd.
