Lodging in Vancouver BC

I'm looking for reasonably priced (for Vancouver) lodging. Two beds, basic. Included breakfast would be nice, but not required. Prefer under $200 per night. I know that is not reasonable for downtown area. So, I'm looking for something along sky train routes that is less expensive than downtown.

We will be flying in, staying a couple days before taking a cruise. Would like to be relatively close to cruise port or easy public transportation to the cruise port, downtown, and Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Plan on taking sky train from airport to lodging (with carryon size luggage).

(I know how to search on Booking.com etc, but hoping some of you have suggestions.)

Thanks for considering.....

The Sylvia Hotel is where I stayed on several trips to Vancouver (and where my parents always stayed and took me as a kid)--right on English Bay, and close to Stanley Park, Downtown, and the West End. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is further outside of town however. Headed up there this next week over Thanksgiving, actually.

We stayed at the Sylvia in July 2023 and really loved it. Is your budget in US or Canadian dollars?

Anyway, we were there to visit people in New Westminster, it was an easy ride on the sky train, and had some nice looking hotels.

Try YWCA Hotel Vancouver - it was a very good value when I went many years ago.

Thank you, I will look at Sylvia.

The Y rooms with two beds were booked out already a month ago. Great location if it had worked out.

Our stay will be late April.

If you don’t want to stay downtown, you could try the River Rock Casino and Resort Hotel.

It’s right on the Skytrain route from the airport, about 3 or 4 stops from the airport to the Bridgeport stop.
You then walk about 3 minutes, all inside, directly into the hotel.
Then, from there, the same train takes you right to Waterfront station in 21 minutes, where you walk about 6 minutes to where you board your cruise ship.
That would be my choice for simplicity.

We also stayed in the YWCA Hotel Vancouver prior to a cruise in 2017.

SJ, your response is just what I was hoping for in regards to mentioning another area on sky train route. Thanks for the details.

In my mind, staying anywhere south of DT Vancouver really does put the Capilano Suspension Bridge out-of-reach for your short stay.

It is not hard to get to the suspension bridge by public transport. Skytain to Waterfront station. Water bus from Waterfront station. Pick up the bus that goes to the suspension bridge at the station on the other side. I’ve done this myself.

I second looking around the Bridgeport station in Richmond.

It takes about 90 mins from Bridgeport Skytrain Station to the suspension bridge …..train in to City Centre station, walk across the street, then catch a city bus: the #246 “Highland” bus.
You can easily do it.
Look on Google maps for directions and routes.

There is also a Capilano Suspension Bridge sponsored bus that goes to and from the cruise ship area (which is also called Canada Place and 2 short blocks from Waterfront Station) during cruise ship season. I’m not sure if it starts at the beginning of cruise season but as others have mentioned, the bus system can get you there as well. The Sea Bus across to North Vancouver (where Capilano SB is) is a lovely 15 minute ride across the harbour and a bus to the Bridge is available after you get off. The Sea Bus spares you delays on the bridge if you are on a city bus and is part of the transit system. I wouldn’t let staying in Richmond stop you from going as once you have done the 20-25 minute Canada Line trip to Waterfront, you have lovely scenery the rest of the way.

You could look at the Lonsdale Quay hotel. It is in North Vancouver, so closer to Capilaino. I believe it is right by the Sea Bus for transport accross to the Cruise port etc. We usually stay at the Sylvia and love that location.
There is also a suspension bridge at Lynn Canyon that is free. I'm not sure how easily it is accessed with public transit.

Thanks to all. I will be talking with my travel friend and make a decision soon. This has been very helpful.

I’m not sure your budget excludes downtown. I guess it depends on your travel dates. But we stay here in Vancouver. Great location - walk to water, park, Robson St. The units are big. Prices vary but I popped in a May date and it’s within your range. It’s actually well below your range if you do the advance pay option.

Valerie....thank you for your suggestion. It looks great for stay, location, public transportation, price and was available. I have booked. Total 202.00 USD per night at today's exchange rate for our April dates. (I didn't book non refundable, so it may change.)

Thanks again to all the other responders. You have been so helpful.
