Our SA cruise ends in Santiago (Valparaiso) in January, afterwards we will head out to Easter Island for 4 days.
Upon return we will have 3 additional days in Santiago. Need suggestions from those who have traveled there as to good
location to stay, safe and walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Budget up to $300 per night but prefer less if possible.
Also, any suggestions for not to miss sights.
Thank you!
Dona,
We went to Chile in 2018. We liked the Hotel Loreto in Santiago. Nice rooms, good location, excellent breakfast. Also went to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) for three days. Only used a day tour once to go around the island and go to the moai "nursery". Walked most everywhere around Hanga Roa (main town) Had a driver one afternoon to go to Orongo.
In Santiago I highly recommend the Chilean Museum of Precolombian Art. It is terrific!
Buen viaje!
Hi,
I just came back from a Patagonia tour. Stayed two nights in Santiago Pullman Vitacura Hotel. Several restaurants within walking distance and comprehensive b'fast (included). To visit sites I'd recommend Uber. We toured the Santa Rita Vineyard. A previous owner built, and filled, a very nice Pre Columbian art museum. The vineyard also has an excellent cafe for lunch.

We stayed at Hotel Plaza San Francisco and loved it. While we were there a production company was filming a telenovela in the lobby and bar area.
The hotel is by Church of San Francisco and a few blocks from La Moneda Palace. We walked to most places including Santa Lucía hill, the cathedral, and Plaza de Armas. We also visited Cerro San Cristóbal, taking the funicular up to it, and took the metro out to Los Dominicos Handicraft Village. Closer to the hotel was Feria Artesanal Santa Lucía. All in all it was a good visit.
If you like hot dogs, visit one of the many Dominós hot dog places. It had about 30 different combinations of toppings. If you like drinks, the Pisco sour is very good.
Thank you, Judy, ard1319 and jaimeelsabio for your hotel recommendations! I will check if any qualify with my credit card points,
free is always good. I also appreciate your information of what activities to look into for Santiago.
Judy, we are planning pretty much the same for Easter Island and doing our thing around town. I will look into hiring a driver to go to Orango.
Thank you all again, and fingers crossed one of those hotels will be available and free!
Dona,
Just a thought...One of our days in Santiago we went on a full day wine tour to the Colchagua Valley with Uncorked Wine Tours. It was fabulous. They picked us up at our lodging and returned us there; small van (7 passengers), very generous tastings and explorations at three wineries, including a superb lunch at one, wine included. One of the pricier wine tours, but worth every penny.
Have fun! Buen viaje!
Thanks Judy, the wine tour sounds lovely, I will look into this one!
