Hello,
My 25 year old daughter and I are traveling to Kauai this spring and would like to support the local economy. Would anyone have any suggestions about locally owned resorts or small hotels? We are most interested in staying at the Eastern shore.
In Feb 2022 I stayed with family at Fern Grotto Inn in Wailua. It’s not ocean front but was very reasonably priced. Owner is a local, doesn’t live on the property but was there every day. I enjoyed the tropical plants on the grounds which harbored a good deal of bird life. He advertises that he has loaner equipment, masks, fins, chairs for the beach but it looked pretty ratty a year ago. Units were clean, full kitchens with most everything you’d need. A/c worked well.
None of the 5 of us are lie on the beach type people and were gone most of the day every day so that location worked for us.
My brother, SIL and I had a 2BR/1 bath unit. SIL’s sis/husb had a studio type unit although it had a full kitchen too.
hey hey axmst10

We are going for 6 days in early June. We have not rented a car yet but plan to. We're still in the beginning stages of planning but I'd love a pool and kitchen or at least kitchenette. We are hoping to go to the beach, snorkel, hike and just get to know Kauai and Hawaiian culture.
I can warn you NOT to stay at Poipu Plantation. We had some things stolen by the staff during our stay there. Management was unresponsive to our issues,
