Julia Child’s Santa Barbara (Co.)

Topics on Julia Childs and her culinary and cultural realm have come up before. I just thought I’d share a map that the Santa Barbara Culinary Experience published to honor the 20th year of Julia’s time in Santa Barbara at the end of her life. She really did get around and funny that I didn’t see Vons in Montecito on the list as that’s where I ran into her once 😍

Here is the recent article where I found the map link:

I live in Santa Barbara and have talked with her several times through my work.
One of my favorite eateries (not on the list) has her framed photo on display as you enter. I have to say that menus at some of the restaurants have changed a bit.

She arrived at a small French restaurant in Chicago where we also were going to have dinner. The problem for the restaurant was that diners all wanted to wait to see what Julia was ordering.
In Santa Barbara we happened to be at the Farmers’ Market the day they were honoring her memory. Her favorite SB chefs passed samples of the dishes she loved that each of them had served her. It was a fitting memorial.

Thank you Mona for sharing. My husband, dog, and I were in Santa Barbara in September and it would have been great to have this for ideas. I will refer to it next time. We stayed at the Kimpton Canary which is a lovely hotel downtown within walking distance of the wharf and great restaurants and very dog friendly. I have been to La Superica many times and it is delicious. I also love the Farmers Market.
