Jordan - lodging for 1 night for late arrival before tour next April

We have already booked a group tour with Gate1 to visit Jordan & Egypt next April for 17 days. We normally want to arrive at least 1 day earlier, and unfortunately, I missed the time and we arrive too late at night @11:30pm. We want to see if we could just stay somewhere close to the AMM airport before heading to our meeting location to start the tour in the morning. Our tour starts from the Dead Sea, so about 45min from the airport and we figure by the time we are done with custom, etc., it would be well into the morning on the day of the tour.

Any advise? Another thought was to change our flight to arrive 2 days earlier, but it cost a bit to change :-(.

Thanks

I don’t have any great advice since I didn’t arrive late at night when I went. Like your tour, I started my trip from a resort on the Dead Sea upon arrival.

Thoughts: are you able to book a night at the same hotel your tour departs from? If so, the hotel will be able to arrange for a driver (your cost) from the airport to the hotel, even though it’s late, and tell you how much. My hotel could even add it to my hotel bill. Truthfully, I think this would be a far easier option for me than trying to stay near the airport and changing the next morning. You would still need the taxi or driver for the transfer. I might even choose this option even if I had to stay elsewhere nearby on the Dead Sea. Just thoughts…..

We arrived in AMM late in the evening and had a driver take us directly to our hotel at the Dead Sea (we stayed at the Hilton). Honestly, even though it was a late night, it was worth it to just get there and the driver was inexpensive. I would just head straight there.

Thank you for your replies. Our 1st day of the tour doesn't start until the next day (4/21), and we just need to make it to Dead Sea hotel on 4/20 early evening in time for the welcome meeting and dinner. We thought maybe staying in Amman city when we arrive, explore the city in the morning until 4PM or so, then heading to Dead Sea in time for the meeting. I have thought of going straight to Dead Sea hotel, but we might not have a chance to see more of Amman. Also, I just realized that we have a free night @ Grand Hyatt, Amman, so we want to take advantage of that :-).

Would you mind to share your driver contact information? Thanks

Customs in Amman is easy - you just put your suitcase on a conveyor belt through an X-ray machine.

For immigration, you buy your visa on arrival - really easy and I’ve never had a line.

Queen Alia Airport is not very big and it won't take you very long to get your visa on arrival. Waiting for bags (if you're checking) is always the slowest part. If we are carrying on, we're out in about 15-20 minutes- maybe closer to 45 if you have bags to pick up. There are hotels near the airport but it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, so you may be more comfortable hiring a driver to take you straight to the Dead Sea (or downtown Amman).
