Our layover in Johannesburg is approximately 7 hours before flying back to the U.S. this fall. It appears that all of the airport's international lounges limit their stays to 4 hours. I am looking for recommendations for hotels that we could book for a short stay to freshen up and sleep a bit before heading for home. Ideally, we would prefer to be inside the terminal, so that we do not have to leave the airport and come back through security. Marriott's in-terminal Protea Transit Hotel is temporarily closed and they are unable to provide a possible date for re-opening. Does anyone have suggestions or personal experience for us? And if you have stayed in a hotel off site, how difficult was it to leave the airport and return? Thanks in advance!
This is from 2 summers ago
Stayed at the other Protea in a room overlooking the airport. I don’t think there is a way to actually walk over - but the hotel has a free shuttle. Also, don’t know if they have any day rates.
Leaving the airport is really easy (I’m making an assumption that you are using an American passport).
One option if you have a priority pass, use it to switch between lounges as there were lots of lounges at JNB through priority pass. This way you can split the 7 or so hours. Alternatively, if you have airline status within one of the alliances, check if there are multiple lounges you can switch between.
