I'm looking for a travel buddy to visit Japan with. I've been to Japan twice and have a rudimentary grasp of the language but I have a poor sense of direction. Kyoto is always wonderful but I'd like to get off the beaten path to experience more of the countryside, shrines, gardens and culture. Suggestions for a small group tour for a short time would also be helpful.

we also have a Travel Partner Forum https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/travel-partners
It was created back before Covid when the Forums were almost exclusively about Europe. The text introducing the Travel Partner Forum emphasises that it is for those travelling in Europe.
It isn't the most used forum here and I am absolutely certain that asking for a travel buddy for Japan there would be very welcome these days. Things have changed in the last 5 years.
This is a long winded way of suggesting that you also put something there.
